5 Things Most Brides Forget on Their Wedding Day (and How to Avoid Them)
You’ve planned every detail, from the perfect dress to the playlist that’ll keep the dance floor full. But even with the most beautiful timeline and to-do list, some things tend to slip through the cracks when the big day arrives.
As someone who’s photographed many weddings, I’ve seen the little things that sneak up on even the most organized brides. So today, I’m sharing the five most common things brides forget on their wedding day—and how to avoid them so you can stay calm, confident, and fully present.
heres the run-down
1. Eating (and Staying Hydrated!)
It sounds simple, but with hair, makeup, photos, and emotions running high, so many brides forget to eat or drink water. This can leave you feeling lightheaded, exhausted, or even emotional before the ceremony starts.
How to avoid it:
Pack a light breakfast or protein-packed snacks, and ask a bridesmaid or your planner to keep a water bottle nearby throughout the morning. A calm, nourished bride is a radiant bride!
2. A Flat Lay Kit for Detail Photos
When it’s time for your photographer to capture your bridal details (like invitations, rings, perfume, shoes, and jewelry), you don’t want to be scrambling to find them—or realize you forgot something meaningful.
How to avoid it:
Set aside all your flat lay items the night before in a box or pouch:
Invitation suite
Both wedding bands and engagement ring
Perfume, earrings, hair accessories
Vow books, heirlooms, fabric swatches (like ribbon or a handkerchief)
Bonus: Add a pretty hanger for your dress!
3. Allowing Time to Breathe
The timeline can get tight, and it’s easy to feel like you're rushing from one moment to the next. Brides often forget to build in space to pause, pray, breathe, and soak it all in.
How to avoid it:
Talk to your photographer and planner about intentionally adding 10–15 minute breathing windows into the day—especially right before the ceremony or during sunset portraits. Trust me, those quiet moments will be some of your favorites.
4. A Change of Shoes (and a Mini Emergency Kit!)
Wedding shoes are beautiful… and sometimes brutal. After hours of walking, dancing, and standing, you’ll be thankful for a comfy backup pair.
How to avoid it:
Pack a pair of stylish flats, sandals, or sneakers. Bonus: toss a mini kit into your bridal suite with things like fashion tape, blotting paper, mints, Advil, deodorant, a sewing kit, and stain remover wipes—just in case.
5. Assigning Someone to Gather Personal Items Afterward
At the end of the night, when everyone’s dancing or winding down, it’s easy to leave behind things like vow books, guest books, gifts, or detail items.
How to avoid it:
Assign a trusted friend, family member, or coordinator to gather all your personal items at the end of the night and keep them safe. That way, nothing meaningful gets left behind in the shuffle.
