Styled shoot with Creatives for the Creator | Portland, Oregon
This shoot at Hoyt Arboretum was such a peaceful, easygoing day — the kind that reminds me why I love photographing couples in natural, quiet places. Hosted by Creatives for the Creator, the shoot brought together a group of photographers and artists to capture love stories surrounded by tall trees and soft summer light.
Our models, Penelope and Luke, wore their original wedding attire for the session, which made it feel especially meaningful. Instead of just posing for a styled shoot, it felt like we were stepping back into their real wedding day — the comfort, the familiarity, the way they naturally fell into step with one another.
The Location
This was my first time shooting at Hoyt Arboretum, and it didn’t disappoint. We spent a couple of hours exploring the trails on a warm August afternoon, surrounded by towering evergreens and that soft, golden light that filters through the forest in late summer. There’s a peacefulness to Hoyt that makes it easy to slow down and take it all in — no rushing, no noise, just a quiet stretch of nature right in the middle of the city.
The Couple
Penelope’s Selkie dress was one of my favorite details — flowy, whimsical, and full of movement. Every step she took made the fabric catch the light and float in the air. Luke kept things classic in his suit, perfectly complementing her playful, romantic look. Together, they had this effortless chemistry — laughing, teasing, and falling into little moments that didn’t feel posed at all.
Wearing their real wedding outfits made everything feel more personal, like a continuation of their story rather than a reenactment. You could tell how comfortable and connected they were just by the way they looked at each other.
Days like this are such a good reminder that beautiful photos don’t depend on big landscapes or elaborate setups. Sometimes all you need is a couple in love, a little golden light, and a place that feels calm and alive.
